Chia seeds

Our organic chia oil is freshly milled from organic chia seeds. The golden-yellow oil has a mild taste and is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Moreover, it contains around 60 g omega-3 fatty acids per 100 g (compared to 50 g in organic flaxseed oil). Thus, chia seed oil is a good alternative to flaxseed oil and can also be used as skin care. To preserve its valuable unsaturated fatty acids, chia oil should not be heated.

Precious omega-3 fatty acids

Chia seeds are very rich in omega-3 fatty acids, namely alpha-linolenic acid, short ALA. This essential fatty acid helps maintain a normal level of cholosterol in the blood. The positive effects set in at a daily intake of 2 g ALA which corresponds to 11 g of chia seeds.

History and origin

The seeds of the chia plant were already used by the Aztec, Maya and Inca in Central and South America and appreciated as nutritious source of energy. They were both a staple food and natural remedy back in the time. "Chia" derives from the language of the Maya and means energy. In Germany and Europe today, the small, black, South American seeds are very popular and are often used as ingredient for muesli or baking.

Nutritious and versatile

Chia seeds as well as chia flour are rich in proteins, valuable fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and fibre. At Ölmühle Solling, we gently cold-press the organic seeds for our mill-fresh, organic chia oil. It has a yellow-golden colour, a slightly nutty fragrance and contains around 60 g omega-3 fatty acids per 100 g.

Usage

The slightly nutty chia oil is very versatile and refines dressings, dips and steamed dishes. It is also suitable for skin care.

Maximum daily intake
The daily intake should not exceed 2 g. Chia oil is an authorised Novel Food and suitable for the use as food supplement.
Our high-quality cold-pressed oils fresh from the mill are ingredients for a sensible, wholesome diet.
