Our omega DHA flaxseed + walnut oil is a combination of valuable algae oil, our mill-fresh flaxseed, walnut and wheat germ oil. It is very rich in omega-3 fatty acid and therefore belongs to the category of our Vital Oils. Its content of 1.6 g DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) per 100 g make this oil blend especially valuable.

Docosahexaenoic acid contributes to a normal cardiac function and the maintenance of normal vision and brain function. The positive effects set in at a daily intake of  250 mg DHA, which corresponds to 16 g of the oil blend (two tablespoons at 8 g). The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded. Furthermore, a diverse and balanced diet as well as a healthy lifestyle are a prerequisite for good health. Keep out of reach of children.

DHA - a marine fatty acid

Docosahexaenoic acid is a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid. It helps to maintain a normal cardiac and brain function as well as a normal vision. Coldwater fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel and tuna are among the most important animal omega-3 suppliers. Algae produce vital DHA that is absorbed by sea fish. In conclusion, algae are an eco-friendly, plant-based source of DHA, the marine omega-3 fatty acid. With its six carbon double bonds, DHA is a truly exceptional fatty acid.

Flaxseed oil, walnut and wheat germ oil as basis

We embed precious algae oil in flaxseed oil, walnut and wheat germ oil. Flaxseed oil is marked by its high content of about 50 g per 100 g of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is an essential fatty acid that is vital to the human body and can only be obtained through food. That makes our mill-fresh flaxseed oil an ideal basis for our omega DHA oils.

In order to protect the quality of the oxidation-sensitive algae oil, we add virgin walnut and wheat germ oil to the blend. The natural content of vitamin E (tocopherol) in the oils is antioxidative and protects the polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Health benefits of our omega DHA oil

Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for the human organism. ALA and DHA are among the most important omega-3 fatty acids. They are essential components of our cell membranes. As messenger substances, they are indispensable for our organism because they enable the chemical signal transmission in the cells and thus are responsible for the communication between the nerve cells.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) also confirmed the following health claims regarding DHA and ALA:

  • ALA contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels (at a minimum daily intake of 2 g ALA).
A diversified, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are a prerequisite for good health.
  • DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision, brain and heart functions (at a minimum daily intake of 250 mg DHA).
A diversified, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are a prerequisite for good health.

As ALA is an vegetable-based fatty acid and the human body cannot synthesize it on its own, it needs to be ingested with food. ALA can be found in chia oil (63 g per 100 g), flaxseed oil (50 g per 100 g) or camelina oil (42 g per 100 g). This also applies to DHA. Even though our body is able to produce small amounts of DHA with the help of enzymes and ALA, it does not cover the daily requirements of the organism. Therefore, we need to obtain additional DHA from our diet. Cold water fish and algae oil are well-known DHA sources.

For an ideal omega-3 supply, we recommend our precious omega DHA oils. Our freshly milled cold-pressed flaxseed oil with its high content of ALA and the resource-friendy algae oil as valuable source of DHA, make a high-quality vegan omega-3 oil.

Eco- and resource-friendly

Contrary to endangered fish populations, algae reproduce easily. The algae are not harvested from the sea but cultivated in special eco- and resource-friendly containers. For the production of our omega DHA oils, we use algae from controlled organic cultivation without the addition of pollutants and antibiotics.

Recommended for vegans

Flaxseed oil with DHA is especially recommended for vegetarians and vegans. Our mill-fresh flaxseed oil contains 50 g of the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). With the help of ALA, our body is able to produce small amounts of DHA on its own. ALA can be obtained through vegetable oils like chia oil (63 g per 100 g), or camelina oil (42 g per 100 g). However, these sources do not always cover the body's requirement of DHA.

Including cold-water fish or fish oil in the diet is recommended to prevent a deficit in long-chained fatty acids. Algae oil can be considered an adequate plant-based substitute for consuming fish or fish oil capsules. Especially for vegetarians, vegans or people who do not like fish or "fishy belching" after taking fish oil capsules, algae oil is an ideal alternative. Furthermore, algae oil does not contain fish protein which can cause allergic reactions.

Usage

Our omega DHA oil flaxseed + walnut can be added to smoothies, muesli or yogurt or to salads and vegetables. The oil blend can also be mixed with fruit juices.

The omega DHA oil flaxseed + walnut contains docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. DHA contributes to a normal cardiac and brain function and maintains a normal vision. The beneficial effects set in at a daily intake of 250 mg DHA which corresponds to 16 g of our oil blend (2 tablespoons at 8 g). The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded. A diverse and balanced diet as well as a healthy lifestyle are prerequisite. Keep out of the reach of children.

Omega-3 fatty acids are very sensitive to oxidation. Therefore, omega DHA oil flaxseed + walnut should be kept in the fridge, especially after opening the bottle. The oil blend can be added to smoothies or used to refine muesli and salad dressings. Given its heat sensitivity, the oil is only suitable for cold dishes and should not be used for frying.
