At Ölmühle Solling, we use organic hemp seeds from certified organic cultivation for our mill-fresh hemp seed oil. The green oil has a mild, nutty taste and a beneficial proportion (3:1) of linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid, and alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid.

Benefits of hemp seed oil

Hemp seed oil contains more than 70 g unsaturated fatty acids per 100 g. Next to the polyunsaturated fatty acids linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, it contains around 3 g of gamma-linolenic acid per 100 g, a rare omega-6 fatty acid in edible oils. In addition, native hemp oil provides other valuable phytochemicals such as carotenoids. The oil is also rich in vitamins, for example tocopherols (vitamin E). Its high content of linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid can have a strengthening effect on cell membranes. Hemp seed oil is also known as the "Queen of Oils" and has the ideal balance of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids of 3:1.

History and origin

The hemp plant (Cannabis sativa) with its distinctive, five-fingered leaves is one of the world's oldest crops. Hemp originates from Central Asia but ever since its discovery, it has been cultivated in Europe as well. It is mainly known as intoxicant and for its active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) but also as a medicinal plant. Today, many varieties with a low THC content have been established, which are proccessed to valuable foodstuffs. There are numerous breeds, especially from Europe, that are almost enitrely free from THC.

Hemp seed oil for cooking

Hemp seed oil can be eaten straight from the spoon, or used for salad dressings, dips and marinades. The nutty oil with the pleasant taste can also be added to the muesli at breakfast or to yogurt with fruits. While hemp seed oil can be used for short steaming, it is not suitable for frying because heat destroys the valuable essential fatty acids.

As an alternative for hemp seed oil, you can also try our hemp seed flour from gently deoiled organic hemp seed. Perfect for baking, refining sauces, muesli or smoothies.

Ölmühle Solling also offers other high-quality products on the basis of organic hemp, such as crisp and unhulled hemp seeds or hemp protein. Especially vegans who lead an active lifestyle need to supply their body with sufficient plant-based proteins. Our hemp protein is a natural and organic substitute for conventional sports nutrition.

Hemp seed oil for hair and skin care

Its mild fragrance makes hemp seed oil very popular for skin and hair care. It can be applied directly to the skin for intense moisture or be added to your daily face or body cream. Especially, dry, sensitive or mature skin profits from the moisturising and skin-protecting effects of cold-pressed hemp seed oil.

A hair mask with hemp seed oil nutures both hair and the scalp. Apply 1 to 2 teaspoons of the oil to towel-dry hair and let soak for a couple of hours. Rinse with a mild shampoo afterwards. Beware of the potential colouring effect for light blond, white or grey hair: Due to its high content of chlorophyll, hemp seed oil can tinge your hair with green.

Further information on organic hemp seed oil

Hemp seed oil should always be kept tightly closed and stored cooly to protect its valuable ingredients. To protect our products from oxidation, we attach a dispenser that enables easy and precise dosage and also reduces the product's contact with oxygen.

All oils by Ölmühle Solling are organic, cold-pressed and freshly milled. Therefore, our high-quality oils contribute to a sensible and wholesome diet.

Usage

You can enjoy hemp seed oil straight from the spoon or use it for short steaming, salad dressings, dips and sauces. Also suitable as tasty addition for muesli or yogurt.
