Linseed, also known as flax (Linum usitatissimum L.), is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world and is prized for the high levels of polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, also known as alpha-linolenic acid, in its seeds.
Linseed cake as a healthy horse feed
The press cake produced when brown linseed is processed into linseed oil is a high quality feed for horses. It is used in veterinary medicine for its digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. Our organic linseed cake is made by partially removing the oil from the linseed using a gentle cold pressing process. Cold pressing at temperatures below 40°C preserves the valuable ingredients in their best form. The press cake is free from additives and contains valuable unsaturated fatty acids, particularly omega-3 fatty acids and lignans. The press cake still contains around 10g of valuable linseed oil per 100g. In addition, the crude protein content of linseed cake is around 36 g per 100 g. Linseed cake is high in calories, making it an ideal supplement for horses that eat a lot.
The essential fatty acids in linseed cake can have a positive effect on the horse's metabolic processes and coat changes in the event of feed-related deficiencies. At the same time, regular feeding can help maintain a shiny coat. In winter, linseed cake can help the horse to use less of its own fat reserves and thus maintain its body temperature better. Linseed cake can also strengthen the horse's immune system. In addition, the high mucilage content stimulates intestinal activity and can help prevent colic.
Also suitable for dogs
Our linseed cake can also be used as a feed supplement or treat for dogs and can also help promote a shiny coat. Not every dog will eat the pellets alone. Ideally the pellets should be mixed with dry or wet food.
Be careful with black seed cake: Black seed oil and cake are poisonous to cats because, unlike horses and dogs, they cannot completely break down the bitter substances.
Feeding recommendation
We recommend a daily feeding of 50-100 grams per pony or horse. The pellets can be fed on their own or mixed into the feed and can also be used as a horse treat.
For dogs we recommend 3-5g per 10kg body weight. Please soak the pellets before feeding and mix into the food. Start with a small amount to see if your dog tolerates the pellets. Discuss dosage with your vet if necessary. Always store in a cool, dry and tightly closed place.
All natural for people and animals
