Maca powder from Ölmühle Solling is a natural product from controlled organic cultivation. The fine powder is made from the root of the maca plant without additives and in raw food quality. After harvesting, the root is gently dried and ground into a fine powder. The gentle drying of the root guarantees that the valuable amino acids, vitamins and minerals are retained, resulting in a brown-beige powder. Organic maca powder is vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free.
The maca plant and its root
The maca plant (Lepidium meyenii) is a cruciferous plant (Brassicaceae) and belongs to the genus Lepidium. The plant is native to the mountainous regions of Moquegua and Puno in Peru, where it thrives at an altitude of up to 4500 meters, seemingly effortlessly in hostile conditions. The maca plant has been cultivated in the Peruvian Andes for around 2000 years and is used as an important staple food as well as a recognized medicinal plant. The tuber-like, nutrient-rich roots of the plant are dried and ground into a fine powder.
Maca in the kitchen
In the Peruvian Andes, the maca plant is used as a staple food in many different ways in the kitchen, similar to the potato here. Even its cress-like leaves are used for culinary purposes. The versatile tuber, which resembles a radish-shaped turnip, is used to make both savory and sweet dishes. For example, the maca plant is roasted, baked in the oven and made into sweet porridge, soup or even vitalizing beer (maca chicha).
In our latitudes, the maca plant is mainly found in powder form. With its sweet, nutty taste, maca powder goes perfectly with muesli, yoghurt, milk, smoothies or simply mixed with mineral water.
Maca in powder form
The advantages of Maca in powder form are manifold. The powder is 100% natural and free from any additives. Unlike capsules, the effect is immediate. In addition, capsules are often not suitable for a vegan lifestyle as they often contain gelatine. As a powder, Maca is also easy to dose (half a teaspoon corresponds to around 3 grams).
We recommend a daily intake of 3 grams of organic maca powder with sufficient liquid. The powder can be stirred into water, smoothies, juices or yogurt. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should not consume the powder, or only after consulting a doctor.
Our maca powder is available in a practical, resealable bag. Please enjoy Ölmühle Solling products as part of a varied and balanced diet.
