A precious extract from the flowering St. John's Wort, St. John's Wort Oil is renowned for its calming and relaxing properties. Our oil is particularly suitable for dry, stressed or sun-damaged skin. It has a soothing effect, promotes regeneration and supports skin elasticity. A massage with St. John's Wort Oil has a beneficial effect on joints and muscles. Tension and sore muscles can be relieved.
Production of St. John's Wort Oil
The oil is produced by a process called maceration: fresh St. John's Wort flowers are soaked in olive oil, which extracts the active ingredients from the flowers into the oil. The mixture is then filtered to remove the solid parts of the flowers. Approximately 400 grams of St. John's Wort flowers are used per kilogram of organic olive oil. A sunflower oil-based tocopherol extract (tocopherols are fat-soluble compounds with powerful antioxidant properties) acts as a natural stabiliser.
Cares for stressed skin
The oil is particularly suitable for dry, stressed and irritated skin. It promotes regeneration and supports elasticity. When applied to chapped skin, the oil can improve the appearance of the skin. Wounds, scars, burns and insect bites can also benefit from its use.
Applying St. John's Wort Oil can also have a beneficial effect after sunburn. After sunbathing, mix the St. John's Wort oil with sea buckthorn oil and apply a thin layer to the skin. The sea buckthorn oil supports the anti-inflammatory effect of the St. John's wort oil. However: St. John's wort oil increases the skin's sensitivity to light. It should therefore not be used before sunbathing.
Origin of St. John's wort
St. John's wort oil is extracted from the yellow flowers of St. John's wort. Due to its characteristic light brown to reddish colour, it is also known as red oil or St. John's blood. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) has been used in herbal medicine for centuries to heal wounds due to its many valuable constituents. In 2015, St. John's Wort was named Medicinal Plant of the Year.
St. John's Wort is native to Europe, North Africa and Central Asia. However, it can now be found almost anywhere in the world, especially along roadsides, embankments and in open woodland. The erect plant reaches a height of between 20 and 100 centimetres. Alternative names include spotted St. John's wort, perforated St. John's wort, Walpurgis herb or solstice herb.

The oil can help with dandruff and oily scalps. A gentle massage is ideal. It also nourishes the hair. As a hair treatment, massage a few drops of St. John's wort oil into damp hair and rinse out lukewarm after 20 minutes.
