Our vitamin D oil is made from MCT oil and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). One drop of the supplement contains 1,000 international units and is the recommended daily allowance. A 50ml bottle of oil contains around 1,800 drops.
Embedded in MCT oil
Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is better metabolised when taken with oil. We embed the vegetarian active ingredient in MCT oil from organic coconuts.
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides, or medium-chain fatty acids. MCT oils are made up exclusively of these medium-chain fatty acids. As our MCT oil is tasteless, odourless and has a good shelf life, it is an ideal base for our Vitamin D3 oil.
MCT oil is produced by physical means. The natural triglycerides of coconut oil are separated into medium and long chain fatty acids by gentle distillation of the free fatty acids at low temperatures. The medium chain fatty acids enriched in this way are naturally converted into triglycerides with a lower melting point. Our MCT oil is virtually tasteless and odourless.
The sunshine vitamin
The simplest and most natural source of vitamin D3 is undoubtedly the sun. During the summer months, the body can produce some of the vitamin D3 it needs from the sun's UV-B rays. However, the body's own production of vitamin D3 is highly dependent on external factors. Levels can vary greatly depending on latitude, time of year and day, weather, length of time spent outdoors, clothing, skin type and use of sunscreen. If the body's own production is insufficient due to sun exposure, supplementation may be an option.
Why do we need vitamin D?
Vitamin D3 is essential for our bodies. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has already approved the following health claims* under the Health Claims Regulation
Vitamin D contributes to
- to the normal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus
- contributes to normal blood calcium levels
- contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
- contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function
- contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth
- to the normal functioning of the immune system
*As part of a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
One drop of the supplement contains 1,000 International Units and is the recommended daily allowance. Accurate dosing is very easy with the dropper. Recommendations are for healthy adults. If you are taking any medication, you should always consult a doctor before taking any supplements. Because individual intake can vary so much, we recommend that you have a vitamin D analysis done by your doctor to check your intake.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Keep out of the reach of young children.
