Canola seed oil is extracted from freshly harvested canola through cold-pressing of shelled canola seeds. Compared to canola oil, it has a milder taste and is more suitable for frying and baking. For the production of canola seed oil, the black shells are removed from the canola grains. Thus, the canola seed oil is exclusively made from tiny golden yellow canola grains in an especially gentle cold-pressing. On the contrary, canola oil contains the entire canola seed.
Canola oil as well as canola seed oil are known as precious edible oils with very versatile uses in the hot and cold kitchen. Due to its low content of saturated fatty acids, its high content of the monounsaturated oleic acid and a balanced ratio of essential omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, canola seed oil is highly recommendable for the daily use. Organic, cold-pressed canola seed should be stored tightly closed in a dark bottle, away from sunlight and in a cool place. If stored in ideal conditions, it is durable for up to 12 months.
Canola seed oil is a valuable edible oil with versatile uses in the cold and hot kitchen. The fatty acid spectrum makes it even more health beneficial than olive oil as it additionally contains around 30 % polyunsaturated fatty acids. The mild-nutty taste goes well with salads. Thanks to its relative heat stability, canola seed oil is suitable for steaming and cooking and even for baking and short frying. Stored in the fridge, it remains liquid which makes it perfect for marinating cheese and antipasti. Canola seed oil also pairs perfectly with egg and dairy products (e.g. for yogurt dressings or mayonnaise). All in all, canola oil can contribute to a balanced diet and is ideal for daily use in the kitchen.
