Our organic coconut blossom sugar is made from the nectar of the coconut blossom. When the flower bud of the coconut palm is cut, a sugary nectar is released. This nectar is gently boiled down to a syrup, which when cooled crystallises into a brown sugar with a strong caramel flavour - but without the taste of coconut. It goes without saying that Ölmühle Sollings Coconut Blossom Sugar is sustainably and organically grown.
Suitable for diabetics
Coconut Blossom Sugar is broken down more slowly in the body than other high glycaemic sweeteners (e.g. cane sugar) and promotes a slower release of energy, keeping you feeling fuller for longer without causing sugar highs and lows. This makes it ideal for people with diabetes. Of course, just like regular sugar, coconut sugar should always be used in moderation.
A versatile alternative to industrial sugar
Coconut blossom sugar can be used in many ways: It can be used to sweeten breakfast cereals, coffee or tea, and to prepare desserts and dessert sauces. Coconut blossom sugar can be used to refine quark dishes and homemade yoghurts, it can be used in baking and it can replace white industrial sugar in cooking. As well as sweetening foods and drinks, it also gives them a slightly caramelised flavour. This makes it perfect for smoothies, homemade iced tea or homemade lemonade. A little coconut blossom sugar sprinkled over fruit salad will enhance the flavour of the fruit used. It can also be used to flavour salad dressings.
Good for you and the environment
Another great advantage of coconut sugar is that, compared to industrial sugar, it is rich in minerals and vitamins - especially B vitamins, which are necessary for the production of coenzymes in the human body. Coconut Blossom Sugar is also particularly sustainable, as a coconut palm tree 'produces' nectar, and therefore coconut blossom sugar, throughout its life. Coconut blossom sugar can only be extracted by hand, making it particularly valuable. At Ölmühle Solling, we take great care to ensure that the plantations from which we source our coconut blossom sugar have fair working conditions and are organically farmed.
